From Frankston to Portsea, Flinders to Main Ridge, Somers to Dromana - revitalise and protect exposed aggregate driveways, patios, pathways and pool areas.

Welcome to Peninsula Concrete Sealing, your trusted local experts for exposed aggregate sealing across the Mornington Peninsula. From Frankston to Portsea, Flinders to Main Ridge, Somers to Dromana and beyond, we specialise in revitalising and protecting exposed aggregate surfaces — those beautiful, textured finishes with embedded stones and pebbles that add timeless appeal to driveways, patios, pathways and pool areas.

Our services enhance the natural beauty of exposed aggregate while shielding it from the Peninsula's harsh summers and cold winters. We offer a range of finishes from matt to high-gloss, using specialised clear coatings that preserve the aggregate's rustic charm while delivering instant appeal and long-term durability for homes in Mornington, Langwarrin, Mount Martha and Rosebud. Where the surface is heavily soiled, we usually start with thorough cleaning before sealing.

Exposed aggregate concrete (exposed agg) is popular for aesthetic versatility and slip-resistant texture, but without proper sealing it succumbs to weathering, staining and erosion. Many assume sealing is a quick spray-and-go job; it's a precise process requiring expertise to maintain integrity and deliver a long-lasting result. Our attention to detail ensures your sealed exposed aggregate driveway withstands day-to-day wear, vehicle loads and environmental stress without fading, cracking or prematurely ageing.

The technicalities that matter

A key factor is surface porosity. Exposed aggregate is rough and porous where cement paste is removed to reveal stones, creating capillaries that absorb moisture and contaminants if unsealed. That porosity is essential for sealer adhesion and a protective barrier against water and efflorescence - and the product must also adhere to the stones themselves.

Not all surfaces are suitable. Previously over-sealed aggregates may resist adhesion, leading to poor bonding and premature failure. If old epoxy or two-pack has left non-porous patches, it may need chemical removal. We recommend against ill-matched market solvent sealers that risk bubbling or delamination. It is circumstantial; in the worst cases we recommend an industrial-grade sealer for a quality finish.

When resealing over existing coatings, determining prior sealer type is essential - water-based acrylic, 2Pac, epoxy or solvent-based acrylic each need specific prep. Where a compatible sealer is found, we use a reactivation solution for a full bond (often needing 48 hours to set in).

In very close coastal areas like Dromana or Sorrento, where extreme coastal conditions accelerate degradation, we prioritise industrial or commercial grade coatings - the same mindset as marine-grade roofing for coastal homes.

We start with thorough inspection and solvent tests to identify existing coatings and conditions. Poor-quality enamels or DIY sealers often fail early with peeling, cracking or delamination - on top of being poorly manufactured in the first place. For enamel-based products we strip completely using removers, chemicals and pressure washing. This prep prevents delamination or bubbling, common pitfalls of coating straight over a failing system.

Once clean, we apply a first coat suited to the base - critical, because mismatched sealers fail early. Overall we apply two to a maximum of three coats of our unique custom blend of Nutech sealers, with curing time between layers. For high-traffic or sloped surfaces we incorporate non-slip additives to enhance safety without dulling the aggregate look. These additives comply with AS 4586 and can offer up to P4+. This proprietary mix combines penetrating sealers for a wet-look with enhanced colour "pop".

We are generally in and out within a 2-3 day process to minimise disruption. You can typically walk on the surface later the same day (weather dependent), but avoid vehicle access for six to seven days after the final coat for optimal curing.

The process

1. Assessment

We inspect the exposed aggregate surface, discuss your desired finish and check suitability including porosity and existing coatings.

2. Preparation & cleaning

Tested chemical cleaning solutions and detergents brighten the surface, removing dirt, efflorescence and stains without damaging aggregate stones. Where needed we combine this with professional pressure cleaning. Cracks or gaps are addressed for a clean base.

3. Application

Custom blend of sealers in two coats (max three) - penetrating base for colour, topcoat for shine and longevity - with a day's cure between coats.

4. Cleanup & follow-up

Daily cleanup, barriers during curing, and return after 6-7 days to verify performance, satisfaction and remove bollards.

Beyond exposed aggregate sealing, we treat pool areas with slip-resistant coatings, concrete pathways with UV-resistant paints, pavers and bricks with different finishes, plus patios, garage floors and retaining walls. In Mount Martha we seal pool areas to combat salt and chlorine splash; in Langwarrin we refresh exposed aggregate patios with our custom blend.

We live by "Do it right or don't do it at all." If we can't guarantee an outstanding finish that withstands time, we won't proceed. If there are reasons the outcome will not be a 10/10, we explain fully and leave the decision to you.
